Spirit In Action – 3rd Tuesdays

WPFW- 89.3 FM
Every Third Tuesdays @ 11:00 am – 12:00 noon

With
Rev. Dr. Carolyn L. Boyd, Host, Executive Producer
Diva Stewart, Producer

Background

Spirit In Action – 3rd Tuesdays is the outgrowth of Damu Smith, host of Spirit In Action on WPFW, activist, visionary, colleague and beloved brother in the fight for justice and peace. In 2003 Brother Damu thought it was time and appropriate for Dr. Boyd’s voice to be heard on the airways of radio. He believed she offered a unique voice to our public discussions of peace and justice issues. He gave up one of his Tuesdays so that Rev. Dr. Carolyn Boyd could be on air.

As a result, Spirit In Action – 3rd Tuesdays was born. Dr. Boyd remains committed to the spirit and legacy of brother Damu as an advocate for peace, social justice, and liberty for all of humanity. This site stands as a living memorial to him and a reminder to keep the faith in the struggle for justice and peace.

Our Vision

We hope to create a safe space to have a “conversation” about the social-political issues and conditions of our times. To foster a spiritual / cultural revolution with our inner spirit as the catalysts for change. Thereby, contributing to the advancement of our collective consciousness and the healing of our planet.

Our Mission

To ensure greater success in our social justice movements by fostering, promoting, and linking the quality of inner spirits with our social activist work.

Our Goal

It is this inner spirit: known by many names and practiced in many traditions that propel humanity forward. On the other hand, our movements of late have failed to nurture the inner spirits of the activists and consequently, we lack the spiritual or moral mandate to bring about the kind of sweeping social changes of past movements.

It is our goal to serve as a bridge over labels, class, race, gender, tribalism, and nationalism. Spirit In Action – 3rd Tuesdays serves a point of intersection between the left and the right, progressives and conservatives, democrats and republicans, believers and unbelievers.

Our Objectives:

Specifically, Spirit In Action -3rd Tuesdays broad objectives include to:

• Inform our audience of social, political, cultural, religious, economic, spiritual, and criminal justice issues that are of concern to our diverse listening audience.

• Influence our audience to act, to examine, to question, to explore issues more deeply and from a variety of perspectives.

• Inspire our audience to think out side of the box, to challenge old ways of getting things done and to envision fresh and innovative ways of enhancing the quality of lives for all of humanity.

Our Format:

The one hour monthly program features an interview with a guest of national or global stature and appeal in which we address issues of political, social, economic or religious implications. The interview is followed by live call ins from our listeners. The interactive format provides opportunities for the host to exchange views, insights, and perspectives with the audience.

What makes our talk radio show different?

Our unique perspective of social justice issues is borne out of Dr. Boyd’s own personal journey from one of victim hood to empowered voice. Dr. Boyd brings a collaborative uniting principle to her “conversations.” She moves beyond labels of all sorts and brings talk radio to a medium of change and community building.

Some of Our Past Guests include:

Marianne Williamson, claimed author and international speaker, Neal Diamond Walsh, Author Conversations with God, Paul R. Loeb, author The Impossible Will Take a Little While: A Citizen’s Guide To Hope in a Time of Fear, Helen Hunt, nationally recognized lecture and author, Ayanna Najuma, CEO Lincoln McCloed Public Relations and Marketing, Professor Clarence Lusane.

Our Theme Song, "Don't Give Up On You"- Performed by Sylver Logan Sharp

Our opening and closing music comes from the creative mind of a local artist known as Silver Logan Sharp and Daryl L. A. Hunt of Redhead Productions. Sylver is an incredibly talented vocalist, composer, and musician. She is a bright light, accomplished spirit, and destined to spread a little love and peace wherever she goes. To be in her presence is to be in the presence of pure joy. After hearing her perform, Dr. Boyd asked her to write a special theme song / music for her radio show, Spirit In Action 3rd Tuesdays. And, from this request, Sylver created, "Don't Give Up On You". It is destined to be a winner. To learn more about Sylver visit her at www.sylverlogansharp.com.
